- Target Archery: This is the most well-known form, where archers shoot at a circular target from a fixed distance. It’s what you’ll often see in competitions.
- Field Archery: Archers shoot at targets placed at varying distances, usually in a wooded or natural area, adding a challenge with uneven terrain.
- 3D Archery: Targets are shaped like animals, and archers shoot from various unmarked distances. This type is often used by hunters to practice.
- Bow: There are different types of bows, including the recurve bow used in Olympic archery and the compound bow, which is designed for greater accuracy and is often used in hunting or 3D archery.
- Arrows: These come in different lengths and materials. The right arrow will depend on the type of bow you’re using and your physical stature.
- Target: For practice, you’ll need a target with concentric rings. In competitions, the closer to the bullseye you hit, the higher the points.
- Arm Guard and Finger Tab: These are used to protect your arms and fingers from the bowstring.
- Improves Focus and Patience: Hitting a target requires concentration, and learning to master the bow will enhance your patience.
- Physical Strength: Drawing the bow strengthens muscles in your upper body, especially the arms, shoulders, and chest.
- Stress Relief: The focus required in archery can help clear your mind and reduce stress.
- Accessibility: Archery is a sport for all ages, and many people with disabilities enjoy it, thanks to adaptive equipment.
